Dr. Ralph B. Monnett Jr. was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. He graduated from Ohio State University summa cum laude in 1974, earning a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Microbiology. Dr. Monnett attended the Ohio State School of Medicine, graduating in 1979 with his Doctorate in Medicine. He then completed his internship at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He served a six-month term as an emergency room physician which was followed by a three-year residency at the University of Tennessee at Memphis, serving as Senior and Chief Resident.
In 1984, Dr. Monnett moved to Sebastian, FL. He became the Founder and Director of Monnett Eye Center and in 1996, he opened Riverside Surgery Center; a state of the art ambulatory surgery center, which is AAAHC accredited and Medicare Certified.
In 2015, Dr. Monnett passed the reigns of Monnett Eye Center and Riverside Surgery Center to long-time associate, Dr. Brett Steinwand. The eye clinic's name has changed to Riverside Eye Center, but procedurally remains the same. Riverside Surgery Center’s name remains the same. Dr. Monnett resides in Sebastian with his wife, Teresa and two daughters, Jaden and Remy. Outside of ophthalmology, his passions include family, fishing, hunting and outdoor sports.
After 33 years as a successful and innovative ophthalmologist and surgeon, Dr. Monnett retired on June 14th, 2017.
